Special Educational Needs

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At St Andrew’s, we are dedicated to providing an inclusive, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Understanding SEND at St Andrew’s

A Special Educational Need (SEN) refers to any difficulty or barrier that affects a child’s ability to learn and access the curriculum. A Disability is defined as a long-term health condition that similarly creates challenges in learning or participation.

We recognise that every child is unique, and we strive to ensure that all pupils, including those with SEND and an Education Health Care Plan Education, receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

How We Support Pupils with SEND

Our approach is grounded in our Christian values of compassion, courage, and friendship, and includes the following key commitments:

Partnership with Parents and Carers
We believe in the full involvement of parents and carers as essential partners in their child’s education. Your insights, hopes, and concerns guide our shared work to support your child’s progress.

Quality First Teaching and Inclusive Curriculum
We provide high-quality teaching tailored to meet diverse learning needs. Our curriculum is inclusive and adapted where necessary, ensuring all children can access learning fully and confidently.

Targeted Interventions
Where additional support is needed, we offer carefully planned individual or group interventions designed to address specific barriers and build skills.

Collaboration with External Agencies
We maintain strong links with educational support services, health professionals, social care, and secondary and special schools to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s development.

Staff Training and Development
Our staff regularly access professional development focused on SEND, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and expertise to meet the needs of all learners effectively.

Ensuring Equal Access
In line with the Disability Discrimination Act, we continually monitor and improve physical and curricular accessibility, creating a safe and welcoming environment for every child.
